Industry News Introduces PEOdirect

Friday September 12, 2008 has announced the inauguration of a new service to their PEO clients called PEOdirect.  PEO clients of and their 401(k) adopting clients and all of the participants in the Slavic401k retirement plans will have access to te new program called PEO Direct.

PEO Direct is a video messaging servce designed specially for the PEO clients.  The video messages will be two to three minutes in length introducing the value proposition or process at all levels of the plan.

Colorado amends its Employee Leasing Law

Employee leasing companies. The law now defines the term “co-employer” as an employee leasing company or work-site employer. The term “co-employment relationship” is defined as one intended to be ongoing, rather than temporary or project specific, and where the rights and obligations of the employer have been allocated between the co-employers by an employee leasing contract. In addition, the employee leasing company and work-site employer are entitled to enforce only the employer rights and obligations allocated to them under the contract. The work-site employer also may enforce any right and perform any obligation not specifically allocated to the employee leasing company by the contract. The terms “covered employee” and “work-site employee” mean an individual who is in an employment relationship with an employee leasing company and work-site employer and has received notice of the co-employment.

Fast-growing PEOs crucial for small businesses

In the human resources industry, professional employer organizations (PEOs) are relatively new, but their value and popularity has grown remarkably over the past 20 years, making them a key component to the success of a small or mid-sized company.

The origin of PEOs goes back to the early 1970s when a consultant named Martin Selter leased the employees of a doctor’s office in Southern California. Slowly the trend built and by 1985 there were approximately 275 staff leasing companies in the United States.
